Thank you for downloading Gee Whiz 0.8, "Past Payment Due."

The recommended way to install this package is by uninstalling any previous
versions you have, because some new releases store different filenames in
different locations. To help make uninstalling easy, it is advised that you
install every release to it's own "special" directory, such as $HOME/gwiz, or
/usr/local/games/gwiz, or something similar to that. This way, uninstalling
is as simple as rm -rf. :)

The recommended installation method is:
./configure --prefix=$HOME/gwiz
make
make install

You can then start the program with:
~/gwiz/bin/gwiz

This release breaks several file formats several times. If you experience any
difficulty with the character manipulation code (adding pawns to your party,
etc.), then remove ~/.gwiz/party07 and start again from scratch.

Version 0.8 increases the code base present in 0.5 by a "mere" 50%. This
guarantees the presence of new bugs (some known, some not). PLEASE, if you
find a bug, register it at bugzilla.icculus.org, so I can keep a list of
bugs and other aggravating behaviors.

Press F12 (in the maze) to configure your keys, the default setup relies on the
Number Pad (with Enter = Ok and 0 = Cancel). Select a key to reconfigure, hit
your "Ok" button, and then assign a new key according to the simple directions.

Version 0.8 features joystick support, as well as many other things. If linux
recognizes your joystick, Gee Whiz should too. Simply press any of the fire
buttons on the gamepad/joystick and it should enable you to configure the
device. Additionally, if you have more than one joystick to configure, you
should be presented with a menu asking you to choose which device you want to
enable.

The inn/levelup code is there, but there are some major problems with it (for
example, you never learn all your spells), but this is not yet a problem, when
considering that there is currently no way to gain experience points.

I have registered #gwiz on irc.openprojects.net (port 6667), for those of you
interested in taking a more active, real-time role in development, or just want
to reach me to chew the rags for a bit.

thanks,
sibn
